Tesloth Simon, a 6'3" guard from St. Mary's HS in Kitchener, has recently announced a verbal commitment to the University of Massachusetts-Lowell Riverhawks, an NCAA D1 school participating in the America East conference.
Simon has been the scoring backbone for a very strong Eagles' nucleus over the past few seasons; he's also appeared in the CWOSSA AAAA finals (with three straight senior victories) each year that he's been in high school. He was the D8 MVP last season, and I'd certainly expect him to make that a "back to back" effort this year.
He impressed at the recent OFSAA "AAAA" championships in Mississauga with a couple of eye-raising scoring performances against Father Henry Carr (29 points) and Oakwood (19 points) --- the two teams that would end up playing for the gold medal at the tournament's conclusion.
UMass-Lowell finished their first season as a D1 school this past year, going 8-8 in the America East conference for a 5th place finish in the 9-team conference. As part of their transition to NCAA Divison I, they are ineligible for postseason play until the 2017-18 season.
There were several schools interested in acquiring his services; I had also heard that Louisiana-Monroe (Sun Belt Conference) demonstrated "significant" interest.
Congratulations, Tesloth
