Hanlan still up in air for BC hoops - NBA or Transfer...

While new Boston College basketball coach Jim Christian will be officially introduced at a press conference today on campus, his best player, sophomore Olivier Hanlan, is busy deciding his own future.
One of Hanlan’s teammates, Ryan Anderson, has already made his decision. Last night on Twitter, Ryan Anderson revealed that he’s transferring from The Heights.
The tweet read: “I have decided to transfer from BC. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the last 3 yrs. Proud I was able to be an Eagle.”
Anderson was the Eagles’ most productive post player this past season. He averaged 14.3 points and 7.3 rebounds as a junior.
Hanlan, the Eagles’ leading scorer in a dismal 8-24 season, said yesterday he is about a week and a half away from making a decision on whether to return to school for his junior year or declare for the NBA draft.
The guard said he has not hired an agent during the process, and will not do so. The NCAA-imposed early entry withdrawal deadline is April 15, but players can avoid a decision by the date if they do not publicly declare for the draft beforehand.
If Hanlan holds off on declaring, he would have until April 27, which is the NBA’s deadline, to render a decision.
“Either way I’ll be in a pretty good position,” Hanlan said. “I love playing college basketball and it’s a game that everybody should enjoy.”
Hanlan was third in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring in his second season at 18.5 points per game, and his shooting percentage of 44.7 was good for seventh. He was the ACC Rookie of the Year as a freshman and landed on the All-ACC third team for 2013-14.
BC’s dismissal of Steve Donahue, the coach who recruited the guard from Canada, caught Hanlan off guard. Hanlan said he was consulting with Donahue about the draft process before the firing, and he is now relying on his inner circle.
“I obviously have a lot of good people around,” Hanlan said. “Steve was helping me with the process. It kind of caught everybody by surprise when he got fired. I was kind of lost for a bit. Now I feel like my head is in a good position.”
Hanlan and the rest of the Eagles met with Christian yesterday. In the coming days, Hanlan expects to have a one-on-one meeting with the new coach.
