If your a Canadian Basketball you knew this would happen based on the NCAA Tournament Results this year and Carleton's success .. Can Carleton really play at the D1 NCAA level day and night for an entire season and be as successful or hey even make the tournament and be the new Wisconsin ..Hoosiers 2K14 people really want to believe they could pull it off and even in this video they really want t sell you on how perfect the system is and what could happen if they ventured into the deep waters.
Dave Smart is very Smart he hand picked his conference when he measured his potential success in the A10 or another Mid Major Conference with Good but similar teams he feels he could beat in conference play and you know what with the Canadian Rules he probably would have a 70% winning percentage but not with NCAA rules so its a completely fictional comment by him.
1. NCAA you cannot practice as much as Carleton in season and outside of the Season it against the rules the biggest thing about Carleton is practice time and development you just don't get the time to coach guys up as much in the NCAA format which is why you have to a legit player to go D1 they want you ready to go asap ..
2. In the CIS Carleton maybe plays 4-5 tough game per year in any NCAA D1 Conference its a dog fight every night the cup cake games where you can build your teams confidence and rest guys are just not there anymore plus .. the culture of the laid back I cant get fired CIS is not there either all these D1 Coaches are just as motivated as Dave Smart never mind the players who have dreams of NBA or Europe .. the CIS cant provide that drive until the culture changes to actually wanting to be the best and acquiring the best players "scholarship" until that day Dave Smart and Carleton happen to be the team that cares the most about Basketball vs Teams and School just out there for the Competition.
3. The Pre-Season NCAA visits are just a warm-up for the NCAA Teams yes they want to win but really its just a get together team builder for the season and they still win at an over 80% clip vs the CIS Teams they play we are performing better however its still a cake walk for the D1 Teams that come up.
For example when Syracuse had played Carleton Tyler Ennis had only completed 1 shoot-around with the team prior to that game Syracuse was by no means in full swing maybe they had a walk through or 2 however Carleton is 20 practices deep and work-outs all summer ..
The CIS Teams should all behave as Carleton does and use the rules to our advantage and develop players but right now only 1 Team is taking the bull by the horns .. Sad to say the CIS is a one team League for Men's Basketball which is actually killing the League in terms of interest in the product.
In conclusion Carleton would not in our opinion have significant immediate impact on any NCAA D1 Conference right away however if Dave Smart went down there or Carleton went D1 and put in 2-4 years of recruiting in any conference they would make some noise but this certainty of success we see in this video is an out and out lie .. Dave's Smart Secret Sauce at Carleton is called "practice" nothing more nothing less.
