Minnesota's Marcus Carr enters transfer portal

Minnesota's Marcus Carr

enters transfer portal

Minnesota guard Marcus Carr, a 6-foot-2 guard from Toronto, has entered the transfer portal.

Carr garnered third-team All-Big Ten honors this season with 19.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. The high-scoring guard, who dropped 30-plus points four times during the campaign, will be one of the more coveted players currently in the portal.

How we got here

Brendan Quinn, staff writer: Carr is moving on from Minnesota following the dismissal of Gophers head coach Richard Pitino. The surprising part isn't that he's leaving Minnesota, but that he's going this route. The perception out there was that after scoring 1,041 points in two seasons at Minnesota, Carr would potentially enter the NBA Draft.

Instead, he popped up Friday morning in the transfer portal. Who knows if he'll remain there. There is, of course, the chance that he could still enter the draft, and he's only dabbling with the portal to see what kind of interest is out there. (Spoiler: It will be a ton.)
