MISSISSAUGA BASKETBALL : The Truth about St. Marcellinius Secondary School - Basketball Program

St. Marcellinius Secondary School

The story behind the new Basketball Power in Peel Region is as follows ROPSSA and OFSAA has banned the team from league competition which should be no shock to anyone as the team and players come from all over Brampton & Mississauga regardless of boundaries very similar to Bill Crothers this team is a recruited team built for excellence and elite training purposes while in a traditional High School Environment.

GameShooter took the time to give Head Coach Tarry Upshaw a call to clarify much of the confusion regarding the team and the schedule they will play this season Tarry informed us the confusion is based solely on an outsiders view and not playing within the Peel Season is not as big a deal as many from the outside are making it into.

1. The Team will Play 40+ games this season
2. The Team is an Elite Junior Basketball Team comprised of the best Grade 8's (Born 2000) in the region
3. The Team will play in up to 3 National Prep School Tournaments in the U.S/Quebec
4. The Team will not play any games @ St.Marcellinius however they will attend school and practice at the School
5. St. Marcellinius will have their own School Team separate from the Elite Training Group the School Team will be "The Spirit"
6. The Team will be playing under "REDA" Basketball as their formal name as a Club Team

The above items are just a few of the details Coach Upshaw advised us of for the 2014 Season.

(R.J BARRETT is slated to attend St.Marcellinius Prep One of the Top 2000's in North America)

If your son is apart of this program rest assured they are in very good hands Coach Upshaw might just be the best Coach in the region and the fact he is devoting his time with such young talent will be a great advantage for those players exposed to his coaching and training.
The fear is this team will destroy their competition however if you know basketball it wont be the case Campion, FHC, DY and the other traditional public school Basketball teams will still be competitive when playing this select group because the talent is everywhere the advantage now is only in what you do with the talent.

No need to fear Marcellinius the best thing to do is to schedule a game and see where you stand let the kids play each other lets find out what system works best.

Um...nope. Teams like D'Y and Campion have refused to play them and also refused to play any tournaments where this team plays as they have taken a number of their players and there are questions about whether proper flex boundary transfers were obtained. That''s the reason some other players who were invited never moved to the program.

  2. #1 St.M's wasn't accepting everyone the team is primarily the Bmba warriors Grade 8 championship team from the oba's.. all the other player invited either didn't want to play with the group or had a better traditional situation at closer schools.

#2 Notice there are no Bounce Oba or AAU players on St.M's the team is primarily a Bmba team with a mix of smaller oba club team members

#3 St.M's is a situation for kids and parents looking for a local prep experience similar to say an orangeville prep yet Dy has play Orangeville Prep this year at the Sr. Level so maybe your point on who will play who is not a fact anymore.

#3 ST.M's can be beat we believe Fhc can beat them at the Junior level remember this is kids basketball and St.M's does not have all of the best players.

#4 Peel Region has the most rigid transfer and boundary rules in comparison to Tdcaa or even smaller boards what makes st.m's different from st.mike toronto it's really a thin line just depends on where your are.

Kids did not move to the programs because of the team situation and who they might be playing with no other reason.
