Canada Basketball Sends “B” Team To Pan Am Games

Canada Basketball has announced the 16 players that will tryout for the Pan Am Games roster in July. Of note, this is not the Olympic qualifying tournament for next summer.
With so many of Canada’s stars embroiled in NBA free agency and upcoming NBA Summer League games, it should not come as much of a surprise that the big names like Cory Joseph, Tristan Thompson and Andrew Wiggins won’t be there. However, the team will feature the Minnesota Timberwolves Anthony Bennett and the Orlando Magic’s Andrew Nicholson.
The balance of the roster includes many names familiar to those who have followed Team Canada in the past:
Jermaine Anderson TBB Trier (Germany),
Olu Ashaolu, Hamamatsu Phoenix (Japan),
Sim Bhullar, 3 games with Sacramento Kings (NBA),
Dillon Brooks, University of Oregon (NCAA),
Junior Cadougan, Sidigas AV (Italy),
Aaron Doornekamp, Fraport Sky (Germany),
Melvin Ejim, Bayreuth (Germany),
Carl English, AEK Athens (Greece),
Devoe Joseph, Cholet (France),
Daniel Mullings, Bayreuth (Germany),
Jamal Murray, Orangeville Prep (High School),
Dyshawn Pierre, University of Dayton (NCAA),
Thomas Scrubb, Carleton University (CIS), and
Kyle Wiltjer, Gonzaga University (NCAA).
The head coach is Jay Triano.
This represents an excellent opportunity to continue the growth of the program and give some players that may not represent their Country at the Olympic qualifier from August 31 to September 12 in Mexico City a chance to play.
The first game is Tuesday, July 21 versus the Dominican Republic.
