Mofford the 6’5″ swing man visited both campuses that are located one hour apart from each other.
Mofford’s father Jomo explained the decision Sunday evening, “They were both great fits, North Carolina is a great basketball state. They love their basketball,” Mofford told Hoops Hype Canada.
“It was a tough decision. What stood out about NCCU was how genuine head coach LeVelle Moton and his staff were, but ultimately the sports facilities and the academics side of things at UNGC were first class. Everything is in place for their program to grow and succeed.”
UNCG is led by former North Carolina Tar Heel point guard now head coach Wes Miller. He took over the reins of the program in December of 2011 on an interim basis. Miller has spent his first three years building a championship-mentality throughout the program and has laid the groundwork for future success.
In today’s college basketball what college coaches crave is shooters and Mofford brings just that to UNCG. With the Spartans set to lose their senior 6’7″ Nicholas Paulos after this season, it provides Mofford an opportunity to contribute right away in 2015-16.

Mofford this upcoming season will prepare for his college career under the tutelage of head coach Larry Blunt at Orangeville Prep. He will play along side UNLV letter man Jalen Poyser and top prospects Thon Maker and Jamal Murray.
Mofford enters 2014-15 with an abundance of experience playing with household names; he was a member of the CIA Bounce NIKE EYBL roster that featured Oregon freshman Dillon Brooks and Missouri’s Montaque Gill-Caeser.
JELAAAAA“I have to give credit to Bounce; to Larry [Blunt] and Tony [McIntyre]. I mean Jelani is a great player but without CIA Bounce and Orangeville Prep I don’t think that all these things fall into place.” Jomo Mofford said.
For the people that don’t know about what qualitiesMofford will bring to the collegiate level his father reiterated why Mofford now becomes the ninth Canadian in the 2015 class to commit for the 2015-16 season,
“He’s a great two way player with size that can shoot the ball. He can play both the two guard and on the wing,” Mofford said.

Hoops Hype Canada high school correspondent Ian Douglas also chimed in on Mofford’s ceiling,
“Jelani is a kid that when he goes away to college and graduates people are going to look back on his career in comparison to others and say you know what, he had a better college career then this guy or that guy,” Douglas told Hoops Hype Canada.
“A solid shooter that is going to be a model of consistency is what Wes Miller can count on for the next four years.”
