Top-Recruit Josh Turner Joins Men's Basketball program

Top-Recruit Josh Turner Joins Men's Basketball program

The Niagara College men's basketball program is pleased to announce the addition of six-foot-four shooting guard Josh Turner. Turner is a native of Auburndale, Florida and was named one of ESPN's top-100 shooting guards in the class of 2010.
Turner will provide the Knights with immediate athletic ability and maturity having spent the 2013-14 season competing as a member of the Calgary Dinos where he averaged 14 points-per-game, and was named to the Canada West All-Rookie Team.
"Josh is an exciting recruit who has talent and a dynamic style of play" said Knights' first-year head coach Keith Vassell. "He is a great addition to our program and we are really looking forward to having him this upcoming season."
After using his first year of eligibility playing in the Canada West division, Turner acknowledges that the style of play in the OCAA is what first attracted him to Niagara College.
"From watching games of this past season, I noticed the league plays at a very fast pace" said Turner. "That's the type of game I have. I like to push the ball and play with tempo."
Turner chose to join the Knights due to the strength of Niagara College's Sport Management program. He continued "it's a field that has always interested me, and I want to work in the sport industry after I graduate."
"Josh really seems to be a high character individual" continued Coach Vassell. "He's already showing His commitment to basketball, our program, and the Niagara community by moving to campus early and continuing his off-season training."
Heading into the 2014-15 season, Turner is expected to play a major role in helping return the Niagara College men's basketball program to the OCAA playoffs. The 2013-14 season was a rebuilding year for the Knights. The team finished below .500 for the first time since the 2000-01 season.
Turner will join a returning cast that includes talented fifth-year bigman Ryan Christie, and fourth year guard Aidan Alize-Minty. Turner continued "I want to help take this team to a National Championship. That's the goal."
