Could 2016 guard Jamal Murray be the next in the Canada-to-Syracuse pipeline?
Murray is a 6-foot-5 guard who will be a junior at the Athlete Institute in Toronto this fall. He is a highly-regarded prospect in the 2016 class. He’s ranked 36th in the class by Scout.com.
And Syracuse is one of several schools that has already begun its pursuit of Murray.
“He’s a very good player,” Larry Blunt, a coach for CIA Bounce (the same AAU program that produced Ennis), said at the Mary Kline Classic last Saturday. “He can really handle the ball. He’s a point guard in that respect. And he can shoot the lights out. He can play the point or the two.”
Murray scored 13 points in the Mary Kline Classic’s underclassmen game. As Blunt said, he played both backcourt positions. He demonstrated a wicked
CROSSOVER dribble and he also put his shooting on display.
Blunt confirmed that Syracuse had shown interest in Murray and that the 2015 guard had interest in the Orange as well. But at this point, said Blunt, Murray’s recruitment is really just getting started.
Blunt told SNY.tv that some of the other schools showing interest in Murray were Georgetown, Louisville, Michigan, North Carolina State and Ohio State. Illinois reportedly has offered Murray a scholarship.
