The new face of Hockey in North America should look like the face of P.K Subban, Nazim Khadri, Evander Kane all of whom are great Hockey Players however marginalized by the league or there teams for what all seem to be on the surface legitimate reasons.
- P.K is to loud, rude full of himself, not a team guy, all about the "Benjamins" (Money), cocky and disrespectful and not to mention a defensive liability as the Norris Trophy winner in the NHL.
- Nazim Khadri also to cocky, immature, mouthy, poor work ethic, out of shape, in too good of shape, not productive however has scored well in the NHL and AHL in any assignment given the leafts basically have been trying to break this kid down from his draft day to turn him into a Robot boring hockey player like 99% of the unmarketable players in the NHL
- Evander Kane just happens to be the elite goal scorer you never hear about from his days as a Junior in Vancouver to his time in the NHL he has been a very well kept secret when compared to his talent and ability the NHL has an opportunity to Market this type of player to a broader segment of fans however choose not to.
People will say the NHL celebrated Jerome Iginla but that was very short lived and Jerome is from an older era and was kept safe and out of sight in Calgary where the fans loved and adored him he was truly and elite player.
The best comparison would be P.K's treatment to Jerome's treatment in regards to NHL fans and Hockey Canada the ugly truth is PK is much more of a visible minority than Jerome is to White Hockey Fans and that seems to put many of them off it is a natural bias they cannot see themselves in PK however Jerome is an easier take on diversity for them so they embrace Jerome more and without issue. In our eyes both players are well spoken niether of them hide from the camera and both are tough elite players on the ice but one of them has achieved wide spread love while the other is often mistreated by fans, Hockey Canada and media.
What Hockey fans and Admin seem be in denial about is the fact the sport is knowlonger the #1 sport among Canadians and is a distant 3rd to new Canadians and Second Generation Canadians who have lived in Canada there kids don't play Hockey and there kids won't either the game is considered to be a very "White" game that is not looking to add new entrants or make it easy to join in the fun where other games are global games Basketball and Soccer the world plays those games and you can see that in there professional leagues. When you watch professional Soccer you see everyone on the field black, white, chinese, Indian and the same for Basketball the NBA has extended there game globally along with FIBA what has Hockey done ? nothing ..
Hockey refuses to Market the existing talent probably because they feel it would shake their core audience which is correct however your Core Audience will be irrelevant soon enough as less and less people are tuning into your games while other sports take over.
